The first location has been realised at TAIPEI ARTIST VILLAGE, home for artistic nomads and a cultural interchange space in the city centre of Taipei, Taiwan. The installation was supported by international curator Annie Ivanova and her local team.

Comprehending the globe as an expanded art territory, REMOTEWORDS will spread a message, authored by Peter Weibel, via 5 roofs of 5 cultural institutions located on 5 continents. The full sentence will be released with the opening of the exhibition ‘Infosphere’ on 4th of September 2015.

GLOBALE is a polyphone event extending over 300 days to commemorate the 300 year anniversary of the city of Karlsruhe.

Today, REMOTEWORDS received a generous support by the major paint manufacture Caparol Profi.
This was not just some support. A truck delivered half a ton of high-quality roof paint divided in 27 buckets to be used for our upcoming project!
Caparol, who distributes its paint in whole Europe let its assembly line in Ober-Ramstadt especially spin to produce the special red-light tinted roof paint that is used by REMOTEWORDS since its first inscription in 2008 – that still looks brand new.

KHM 25 Years Celebration


On January 22nd at the occasion of the 25 years of KHM celebration, the induction of the 25th REMOTEWORDS takes place.

For its induction during the celebration, the project will be presented and the roof will be made visible on screen inside the venue via live broadcast, filmed by a drone.

REMOTEWORDS @ Open Day ZKM Karlsruhe

At the open day 2015, preciesely 165 days before the start of GLOBALE, ZKM turns into a laboratory: In manifestations, lectures, performances, guided tours and concerts the visitors can test facilities how art and science approach each other.

Tuesday, January 6, 2015 11 am – 6 pm

For  “Tag der offenen Tür” the concept of REMOTEWORDS is being expanded into a virtual game: a large-scale, individually accessible satellite picture of the exhibition premises (ZKM) invites each visitor to cover one roof with a message. The statements are forthwith applied to the satellite picture. Visitors can contribute statements on issues such as urbanity, navigation, digitality, virtual simulation and city (urban) space.At predetermined times, remote-controlled drones will fly over the 10 x 6 m walk-around satellite picture. The pilotless aircraft is equipped with a CCTV system that, during its flight, relays live images of the area below onto a projection wall. The live image is practically indistinguishable from a real flyover-video of Karlsruhe.

25TH Novemher – 5TH December 2014

Roof Size | Font Size: 456 qm  | 11m x 22m

We worked with four people for 10 days to paint a code consisting of 1058 pixels and a quotation, refering to the painter Malewitsch.

After one day of sweeping, we had the roof prepared for a double cover in bitumen. The approaching winter made days short and warming coffee-breaks longer, but after ten days in total a QR code of 121 squaremetre and the letters WHITE GROUND BLACK SQUARE beamt at us.

HeK Opening

From 21. – 23. November 2014 HeK celebrates the opening of its new venue on Freilager-Platz with an evening of concerts, workshops and the first ever solo exhibition in Switzerland by japanese artist Ryoji Ikeda and a performance by REMOTEWORDS.

BILD ≠ KUNST
This is a thesis by philosopher and art historian Hans Ulrich Reck, since 1995 professor for art history within media context and, since April 2014, rector of the Cologne Academy of Media Arts. The thesis refers – as a modified quotation – to his book “The Myth Of Media Art” (“Mythos Medien Kunst”). His wording mirrors the paradigmatic shift in the meaning of images by digital media. Images no longer stand solitarily at the center of art but are defined by artistic strategies. The House of electronic Arts, Basel (HeK) stands symptomatically for this relationship between (electronic) image and art, a relationship that is subject to constant change.
