gateways. Art and Networked Culture

The House of Electronic Arts Basel presents a selection of works from the exhibition gateways. Art and Networked Culture, which was shown at the Kumu Art Museum as part of the European Capital of Culture Tallinn 2011 programme, from 13 May to 25 September 2011.

The exhibition presents artists whose work deals with the changing conditions of a networked world – a world increasingly transmitted through media. The artistic works presented use various means to tackle the theme of gateways that lead to realms of action and experience in our digitally interconnected culture, while reflecting on the societal and cultural changes brought about by digital media and a global Internet culture. Through the artists’ use of electronic networks and mobile technologies, the public is encouraged to participate actively and invited to engage with new and unaccustomed experiences in perception.
The exhibition was realized in collaboration with the Goethe Institute. Curated by Sabine Himmelsbach.
