Hsinchu City Art Gallery (新竹美術館) is one of the examples that combine the characteristics of European and Japanese architectural style during the Japanese colonial period (1895-1945). The building had gone through several transformation over the period of time and was once a Hsinchu City Household Registration Office (新竹市役所) in 1991. Later in 2016 it became what we’ve known today, an exhibition space for contemporary art display, bringing a strong art spirit to Hsinchu City.
